JOB OBJECTIVE:
The successful candidate will be expected to teach Associate of Science-level engineering classes and laboratories, create instructional materials and laboratory experiences, promote the Engineering Science Transfer path through local, regional and national engagement, participate in program assessment activities related to accreditations (e.g. SACSCOC, ATMAE, NIMS), perform student advising, and other departmental service. Applicants must have: (a) an earned Masters of Science or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or a closely-related field; (b) a minimum of 1 year of teaching experience at the community college or university level; (c) evidence of strong oral and written communication, computer and presentation skills - a teaching demonstration will be required at the interview (d) a commitment to student success; and (e) motivation to develop partnerships with university- and industry-partners. Preference will be given to those having relevant industrial experience. Women, veterans, and members of underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
55% A. Teach freshman and sophomore level engineering courses that include the topics of statics, strength of materials, particle and rigid body dynamics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, oscillation, waves, and computer science
10% B. Work with the Program Coordinator, ENS faculty, Tennessee universities that offer a BS in Engineering, and local organizations to continually refine and improve related curricula. Develop new courses as required, maintaining program currency in emerging technologies. Share responsibility for day-to-day operation and routine upkeep of classrooms, labs, and equipment. Promote a safe working environment.
20% C. Provide service and outreach to the college and community such as academic advising, serving on internal and external committees, writing letters of recommendations for students, assisting in promotion of the Engineering Science Program and recruitment of new students, along with other duties as assigned.
10% D. Learn emerging technologies and processes (including different computer platforms and related hardware, software, and instructional aids) used in teaching Engineering Science classes. Attend and/or present at local, regional, state, or national conferences as part of professional development activities.
5% E. Participate in Assessment activities and processes as required by the College.
