- JOB SUMMARY
- The diagnostic medical sonographer is expected to perform accurate ultrasound exams of all types on both inpatients and outpatients. Sonographer must perform these duties effectively without constant supervision. Expected to not only perform at a high technical level, but also communicate well with other individuals including coworkers and hospital physicians. Expected to have an excellent bedside manner and must represent the hospital with integrity.
- JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Education and/or experience: Graduate from an ultrasound technology program or have at least one year of on the job training in a hospital setting. Taken and passed the ARDMS registry examinations in at least one specialty area and maintain the RDMS credentialing while performing ultrasounds at this facility. Requires current CPR certification.
Knowledge: Well versed in all aspects of the human body both male and female and needs to be able to image the body according to ultrasound standards and guidelines. Must have the knowledge to identify the differences between normal and abnormal pathology within the body. PACS & RIS computer knowledge is required.
Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills. Demonstrates self direction in improving and acquiring the skills and abilities necessary to enhance job performance.
Abilities: Expected to have excellent manners and must represent facility in such a way that patients feel well cared for and would return to facility in future. Expected to demonstrate proper telephone etiquette, and strong attention to detail. Comfortable learning and working with new computer systems. Be able to meet or exceed patient satisfaction at all times. Must be able to work independently. Must be able to interact with patients and staff in a courteous, professional manner.
