We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Corrosion Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our team, supporting our downstream business with a focus on utilizing chemistry to prevent and mitigate corrosion. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical knowledge and expertise in corrosion science and engineering and will be responsible for providing specialized support and guidance on corrosion-related issues across our customers' operations. This role involves developing and implementing corrosion control strategies, conducting failure analyses, and collaborating with various departments to ensure the integrity and longevity of our customers' assets.

Requirements

Duties & Responsibilities:

Technical Expertise and Support

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all corrosion-related inquiries and issues.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to customers, sales, and operations teams.
  • Conduct root cause analyses of corrosion failures and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop and implement corrosion mitigation strategies and technologies.

Project Management

  • Lead and manage corrosion-related projects, from concept through implementation.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery.

Standards and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to corrosion control.
  • Develop and update internal corrosion management standards and procedures.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to verify compliance with corrosion control programs.

Training and Development

  • Design and deliver training programs for employees on corrosion awareness and prevention.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians in corrosion science and engineering practices.

Research and Development

  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in corrosion science and technology.
  • Collaborate with external research organizations and participate in industry forums.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare detailed reports on corrosion investigations, findings, and recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate records of corrosion monitoring data and inspection results.
  • Present findings and updates to senior management and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field. Master's degree or Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in corrosion engineering, preferably in the refining and/or petrochemical industry.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing corrosion control programs and projects.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of corrosion mechanisms, materials science, and chemical inhibitors.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using corrosion monitoring tools and software.

Working Conditions / Physical Demands

Work will typically be performed in an office environment using routine office equipment.

Travel Requirements

Less than 20% - only as needed for training, off-site meetings, etc
