The director of talent is responsible for overseeing the chamber's talent efforts, which include early childhood education, childcare, public education, post-secondary education, workforce development, and talent retention and attraction with the aim of ensuring that children and youth in our community are prepared for the jobs of the future. The director of talent will work regularly with key partners including K-12 and post-secondary institutions, workforce service providers, nonprofit organizations, chamber investors, private businesses and community stakeholders. Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop, and evaluate programs that enhance the region's talent pipeline by engaging with higher education students about quality of life and career opportunities in Knoxville; supporting local businesses in attracting talent (i.e., the creation of learn-and-earn models); and conducting out-of-market talent recruitment campaigns
  • Serve as a connector between businesses and education/training providers to align workforce development efforts with regional employer needs
  • Support the community's early childhood strategic plan, by, amongst other avenues, providing assistance to organizations seeking to open or expand childcare centers and employers who are seeking to assist their own workforce
  • Provide strategic counsel and expertise to the vice president of regional enhancement on matters related to talent
  • Create and foster relationships with key partners across the region, state, and country
  • Communicate pertinent business information to other chamber departments
  • Work in unison with the vice chair of talent to operate the talent council

Preferred qualifications and competencies:

  • Impeccable presentation, writing, and communication skills
  • Proven manager of processes and systems with attention to detail
  • History of being innovative, resourceful, and creative
  • Proven ability to successfully work through complex issues and projects
  • Understanding and appreciation for the use of data in evaluating opportunities and outcomes
  • Exhibit strong executive presence as reflected by behavior, appearance and demeanor
  • Proven executive, strategic, and long-term critical thinking capacity
  • Exemplary skills in leadership, interpersonal relations, and ethics
  • Willingness to be flexible, adaptable, and proactive in a constantly changing environment

Working conditions:

  • Occasional travel for meetings
  • Some evenings and weekends may be required
