Director of Risk Management

Location: Knoxville, TN

Treatment Setting: Outpatient / Community-Based Facilities

Position Summary

An established behavioral healthcare organization is seeking a Director of Risk Management to oversee the implementation and facilitation of risk management and compliance programs across its outpatient facilities. This role ensures facility compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation standards. The Director will work closely with senior leadership and the compliance team to support investigations, policy enforcement, and risk mitigation strategies.

Non-Negotiable Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a risk management role.
  • At least 1 year of supervisory or management experience.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and standards set by accrediting bodies (preferred).
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism while interacting with the public.
  • Must be capable of maintaining focus and alertness in a safety-sensitive environment.
  • Must attend meetings, including occasional travel and conference calls, as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues, clients, and families.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance (if travel is required).
  • Strong understanding of patient privacy laws, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2, is required due to access to sensitive health information.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in high-pressure situations and during critical incidents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Public Health, or a related field.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior risk leadership to communicate and address safety and risk issues.
  • Educate facility leadership and staff on relevant risk management policies and initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards across all sites.
  • Manage and analyze sentinel and critical events, and support root cause analyses.
  • Input risk-related data into tracking systems and maintain thorough documentation.
  • Participate in compliance investigations as needed.
  • Provide performance improvement teams with relevant risk and safety data.
  • Help identify trends and develop corrective action plans to reduce liability exposure.
  • Travel to multiple facility locations (up to 75%).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
