Summit Medical Group is recruiting for a OSHA & Worker's Compensation Specialist. This is a full time opportunity. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive safety program that ensures compliance with OSHA regulations across all clinical and administrative locations, while also managing Workers' Compensation claims from start to finish. This role will design and modernize processes, documentation, and training for both OSHA and Workers' Compensation, ensuring they are consistent, effective, and user-friendly across the organization. The Specialist will partner with Operations, site-level OSHA Coordinators, and insurance providers to create a culture of safety, reduce incident rates, and maintain regulatory readiness.

Key Responsibilities Duties (Not Meant to be Exhaustive)

Program Leadership, Creation & Compliance

• Build and implement a comprehensive OSHA program from the ground up, including policies, procedures, training, and documentation.
• Audit, update, and modernize all OSHA and Workers' Compensation forms, reports, and workflows.
• Maintain and submit OSHA logs (300, 300A, 301) and other required records.
• Serve as primary contact for OSHA inspections, inquiries, and follow-up actions.
• Monitor changes in OSHA regulations and update policies accordingly.

Training & Education

• Overhaul and deliver annual OSHA training for all employees and site OSHA Coordinators to ensure accuracy, engagement, and compliance.
• Provide onboarding safety training for new hires in clinical and high-risk roles.
• Create and maintain accessible safety resources for employees and managers.

Audits & Inspections

• Conduct independent OSHA compliance audits (30-50 key checklist items per site).
• Partner with Operations on site audits and address OSHA-related findings.
• Ensure corrective actions are tracked and completed in a timely manner.

Workers' Compensation

• Serve as primary contact for all WC claims (low-volume, primarily needlestick injuries and occasional falls).
• Update and streamline WC claim intake, investigation, and return-to-work processes.
• File claims with Accident Fund and track through resolution.
• Partner with site leadership to complete incident reports and investigations.
• Analyze WC trends and implement preventative measures to reduce claims.

Incident Management

• Investigate workplace injuries, exposures, and near-miss events.
• Ensure all WC incidents are appropriately logged with OSHA when required.
• Recommend prevention strategies based on incident data.

Policy & Manual Oversight

• Support site-level OSHA Coordinators in maintaining and updating their OSHA manuals.
• Standardize manual content to ensure consistency and compliance across locations.
• Maintain a centralized library of OSHA and WC policies and procedures.

Emergency & Pandemic Preparedness

• Lead safety protocol updates during public health events or emergencies.
• Serve as central point of contact for safety guidance, exposure tracking, and employee protection measures.

Ongoing Oversight

• Maintain and Oversee SDS Repository (HIS): Ensure the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) repository within the Health Information System (HIS) is current, compliant, and accessible. Regularly audit entries for accuracy and completeness, and coordinate updates with relevant departments.
• Conduct Annual Sharps Safety Device Evaluation: Lead the annual review and evaluation of sharps safety devices to ensure alignment with regulatory standards and internal safety protocols. Collaborate with clinical teams to assess device effectiveness and recommend improvements.
• Manage OSHA Compliance for Manuals: Oversee the procurement, distribution, and periodic updates of OSHA-required manuals. Ensure all materials reflect the latest regulatory changes and are readily available to staff across departments.

Education and Certifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Risk Management, Human Resources, or a related field preferred.
• OSHA 30-Hour Certification (General Industry or Healthcare focus) required; OSHA 500/501 or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education, professional certifications, and directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Experience

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in occupational safety, workers' compensation, or risk management; healthcare setting strongly preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of federal OSHA and Tennessee OSHA (TOSHA) standards, especially as they apply to clinical environments (BBP, Hazard Communication, PPE, sharps disposal).
• Demonstrated ability to build and modernize safety and claims processes from the ground up.
• Experience conducting audits, investigations, and training across multiple locations.
