Job Summary: Apprenticeship is the challenging yet rewarding process of learning on-the job applications that takes untrained, eager-to-learn people and produces skilled, qualified Maintenance Technicians. During the 4-year Maintenance Apprenticeship, you will learn and perform, under supervision many new skills.

The Apprentice will have all the benefits of a full-time employee, so you earn a full-time paycheck with benefits while learning your trade. This is a 4-year apprenticeship program with on-the-job training and also online classroom learning. There are skills and knowledge testing throughout, assessing your growth in the trade. All the costs of your training and classes are fully paid by Carmeuse!

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Must be able to safely and efficiently perform tasks within the maintenance department as they become proficient through their Apprentice Training Program, including classroom and/or on-the-job training
  • Maintain plant cleanliness and appearance through general housekeeping and salvage operations
  • Competently perform necessary tasks to satisfy work orders and verbal directives from supervisor, complete all paperwork and reports associated with daily maintenance functions, or other data as required by supervisor
  • Assess scope of necessary work and materials required for task, retrieve materials and complete task
  • Inspect for and perform predictive maintenance procedures when need is observed
  • Participates in any training that may be required to improve job performance or operating efficiency
  • Communicate to supervisor problems or areas of concern and coordinate work efforts with co-workers
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Meet all requirements outline in Article 43.03 of the collective bargaining agreement "Carmeuse Apprenticeship Program"
Job Qualifications:
  • Must be able to successfully pass the entry level aptitude assessment
  • Must be able to read and write comprehensibly
  • Must be capable of operating mobile equipment
  • Must be able to walk over rough terrain, stoop, reach, climb, kneel, and carry up to 60 pounds
  • Position requires work, both indoors and outdoors, on the surface and/or underground, involving temperature extremes, dust, noise and humidity
  • Regular attendance is required. Overtime may be required as determined by management

Responsibilities
  • Perform various maintenance tasks safely and efficiently, under supervision.
  • Maintain plant cleanliness, ensuring an organized and tidy work environment.
  • Fulfill work orders, following supervisor instructions and completing associated documentation.
  • Assess and procure required materials for maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct predictive maintenance and inspections.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors, coordinating work efforts.
  • Adhere to health and safety protocols, promoting a safe work environment.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED essential.
  • Flexibility to work varying hours, including weekends and overtime, as needed.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs. frequently.
  • Willingness to undergo training for skill development.
  • Basic computer literacy for reporting purposes.
