Position Summary
The Tobacco Cessation Psychologist is responsible for screening and enrolling patients identified as smokers in a tobacco cessation program and research studies. This will be a leadership position working collaboratively with patients, staff, and researchers to assess new methodologies and treatment strategies for treating smokers in the East Tennessee population. The individual in this role is expected to incorporate motivational interviewing and coaching along with understanding of research protocols and clinical workflows to support harm reduction and tobacco cessation. The position maintains health and research documentation. The position supports Community Health Improvement as well as other Population Health strategic initiatives. Interest in clinical research is highly desired.
Areas of interest include cancer research related to precision population health, health communication, molecular or genetic epidemiology, implementation science, health disparities research, community-based research, early detection and screening, telehealth, health services and policy research, shared decision making, health promotion/health behavior, and symptom management.

Motivate and empower clients to make changes to address their addiction
a. Explain to clients the principles of the nicotine and the smoking cessation service to enable them to make informed choices
b. Deliver evidence-based stop smoking interventions, these include one to one, group sessions, telephone, or on-line support, these must be in accordance with the NCSCT Standard Treatment Program.
c. Work with other professionals to embed smoking cessation as part of routine client care

Maximize the impact of smoking cessation on health gains and reduce health inequalities
a.To understand the analysis of health and equalities data including service data identifying local need to inform local service need.
b.Provide a high quality, efficient and cost-effective services throughout a diverse range of community settings
c.* Lead peer support group sessions for successful cessation following intervention to prevent relapse
d.* Provide evidence-based education in all aspects of smoking cessation and behavioral change as well ongoing motivational support
e.* Work with individuals to set realistic sustainable goals
f.* Ensure all client and service records are up to date, accurate and satisfy the UTMC documentation policies
Assists the principal investigator(s) to design, develop, and obtain IRB approval. Implements and disseminates investigator-initiated research.
a.Participate in study participant recruitment and data and/or biospecimen collection activities as needed. May interview and evaluate study participants to determine trial/project eligibility and disseminate information for enrollment on protocol once eligibility is confirmed.
b.Assists in the coordination of data analysis and manuscript writing.

Be an experienced Smoking Cessation Practitioner within the community (Training would be given)

Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function. A team member who does not meet attendance standards outlined in the Personnel Policy, Attendance and Tardiness, is not qualified for this position.

Position Qualification:
Master of Psychology Required
Doctor of Psychology Preferred
Four (4) years of relevant community health education/wellness experience
