Overview

The Director of Cybersecurity reports to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and leads all cybersecurity operations and strategy within the organization. The role protects confidential, integral, and available information assets, especially sensitive PHI, while developing a vision for secure technology and managing vendor, budget, and personnel resources. The position collaborates with IT, clinical, and business leaders to secure the health system and ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.

Responsibilities

• Leadership & Team Management – Direct all cybersecurity staff, provide career development, and coach the team to deliver modern security solutions.
• Strategic Planning & Roadmap – Develop and maintain a strategic cybersecurity roadmap, tactical action plans, and resource allocation to achieve organizational objectives.
• Operational Oversight – Oversee day‑to‑day monitoring, detection, response, and incident management to protect the network and systems.
• Compliance & Regulatory – Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and other healthcare cybersecurity requirements, and lead policy development and enforcement.
• Vendor & Budget Management – Manage relationships with cybersecurity vendors, set contracts and performance standards, and develop operating and capital budgets for cybersecurity projects.
• Training & Awareness – Design and implement security awareness and training programs for all employees.
• Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery – Develop and maintain business continuity and disaster recovery plans to recover quickly from security incidents.
• Collaboration & Relationship Building – Partner with IT, clinical, and business leaders to align and integrate cybersecurity services within the health system.

Qualifications

• Minimum Experience – 10 years of technology/IT leadership, 7 years of leading enterprise‑size cybersecurity.
• Education – Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
• Licensure & Driver – Valid Tennessee driver's license and state‑mandated minimum insurance coverage required; driving record must meet client standards.
