divh2Basic Purpose Of The Job/h2pPerforms venipunctures and capillary sticks and collects specimens for laboratory procedures; assists with other duties in the laboratory and hospital that do not require licensure, as assigned./ph2Reports To/h2pDirectorLaboratory/ph2Job Requirements/h2pstrongSupervisory Responsibilities:/strong No/ppstrongMinimum Education:/strong High school diploma or GED preferred./ppstrongLicense/Certification Required:/strong None/ppstrongMinimum Work Experience:/strong One year experience as a phlebotomist preferred/ph2Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities/h2ulliOrganizational and communication skills required./liliDisplays poise and self confidence./liliHas a working knowledge and experience with venipuncture and skin puncture techniques./liliKnowledgeable about collection tubes, test requirements, and safety aspects of phlebotomy./liliIs able to multi-task, handle stress appropriately and work in a fast-paced environment./liliWorks well with others and consistently displays a courteous professional attitude in all situations./li/ulh2Duties And Responsibilities/h2ulliCorrectness of specimens collected and labeled, clerical duties, QI, etc./liliMaintains technical/clinical standards of work area./liliReliability and speed in collections, labeling, spec processing, deliveries, etc./liliQuantity of quality specimens collected and correctly labeled per unit of time./liliMeets deadlines for stat, urgent, routine, timed specimen collections/liliMaintains efficient work environment related to quality specs, timely collections, labeling, etc./liliMaintains work area and equipment in the condition required by department standards./liliIdentifies patient by checking name and E number on patient armband./liliLabels all specimen tubes following established procedure: Date and time of draw and phlebotomist initials./liliComplies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety procedures./liliDemonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment./liliPerforms venipuncture using correct technique and with minimal discomfort to the patient./liliPerforms fingerstick procedures with correct technique and when unable to obtain specimen by venipuncture./liliFoster and encourage principles of C/FCC to include: communication, education, orientation and implementation of C/FCC actions and projects./liliMaintains productive work environment related to work habits, interruptions, etc./liliUnder supervision will help in the training of new employees and student interns at the hospital in the performance of phlebotomy duties./liliFollows all organizational and department or unit policies and procedures./liliPromotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intradepartmentally to facilitate the departments/units ability to meet its goals and objectives./liliWillingly accepts any other assignment that may be requested.
