PC Repair Technician (On-site and Remote)

Description:

An onsite PC repair technician's responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing hardware and software issues, performing installations and upgrades, providing technical support to end-users. They must troubleshoot problems, set up new equipment, perform data backups, maintain computer systems, and ensure security protocols are followed.

Technical duties

  • Troubleshoot hardware and software: Diagnose and fix issues with computer components (like motherboards, screens, and power supplies) and software (like operating systems, applications, and viruses).
  • Install and upgrade: Set up and install new hardware, software, and peripherals. Perform upgrades to firmware, components, and operating systems.
  • Repair and maintain: Disassemble, repair, and reassemble computer hardware. Perform routine maintenance to ensure systems run efficiently and perform necessary security updates and patches.
  • Perform diagnostics: Use diagnostic programs to test system performance, identify failures, and test new software.
Support and communication
  • Provide end-user support: Offer technical assistance in person, via phone, or email or in person to help users with their computer systems.
  • Train users: Educate users on how to use new software and hardware and on best security practices.
  • Record and report: Create detailed records of repairs, issues, and maintenance performed.

Security and data management
  • Implement security protocols: Install and maintain security software, scan for viruses, and help enforce security policies.
  • Manage data: Create and perform data backups to prevent data loss.

Other responsibilities
  • Network support: Provide support for local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and telecommunications equipment as needed.
