Job Description:
The mission of the Blalock Companies is to meet customer expectations safely and efficiently. The purpose of our general workforce is to assist and aid in the completion of construction projects. This job will require an employee to travel to job sites and complete various laborer tasks: grade/utility, concrete work, bridge construction, paving, erosion control, traffic control, and any other task related to construction and the needs of the Blalock Companies. Pay rate is dependent on experience in laborer positions. Employees are required to follow safety requirements listed by the Blalock safety department as well as OSHA requirements.
Responsibilities
The following responsibilities are general duties that a Construction Laborer performs. The actual duties required of this position will vary and may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assists supervisors, surveyors, equipment operators, pipe layers, concrete finishers, carpenters, skilled laborers, paving operators, mechanics, and others in work related tasks
- Work related tasks includes signaling for the movement of equipment, setting grade, laying of pipe, preparation of trenches, tying rebar, pouring of concrete, raking asphalt and other manual tasks
- Maintains jobsite housekeeping ensuring public, co-worker and environmental safety including cleaning equipment and materials, handling and stocking of material, traffic control, erosion control, securing safety lines/nets and other tasks as directed by the field supervisor.
- Construction Laborers continually uses shovels, rakes, picks, hammers, tampers and other hand tools
Position Requirements RequirementsPre-employment Requirements:- 18 years of age
- Complete a company physical examination and drug screen
- Comply with work references and criminal background check
- Complete and comply I9 and EVerify requirements
- Complete all elements of employment processing
Preferred Qualifications:- 1-2 years of construction experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of construction
Job Requirements:- Demonstrate the ability to perform work tasks production/quality level set by the Company
- Demonstrate the ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Demonstrate the ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the general public
- Demonstrate the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Demonstrate the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Demonstrate the ability to perform all work in a safe manner
Job Duties:
- Continually stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, bend, crawl and climb
- Continually use verbal communications (speech/hearing)
- Continually have a full range of motion for arms, hands and fingers
- Continually demonstrate visual acuity, depth perception, color perception, peripheral vision
- Continually demonstrate ability to continually lift and move weights of 15 to 25 pounds
- Intermittently demonstrate ability to lift and move weights of 50 pounds
- Demonstrate the ability to climb ladders, balance on scaffolding, and work at heights requiring fall protection
- Demonstrate the ability to wear and maintain Personal Protect Equipment
Other Intermittent Requirements:- Work 12 hours per day
- Work weekends and holidays
- Work all types of weather and ground conditions
