Description:

Spectra Tech, Inc. is hiring for a Composites Engineer in Oak Ridge, TN. Position Overview We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Carbon Fiber Composites Design and Process Development Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and manufacturing process development of carbon fiber composite parts and vessels.This role bridges innovative R&D and high-volume production, driving both concept development and efficient, scalable manufacturing of advanced composite systems.Key Responsibilities Design and develop carbon fiber composite parts and vessels, optimizing strength-to-weight ratio and durabilityPerform mechanics of materials and structural analysis using ANSYS or similar advanced simulation toolsTranslate layup designs into bulk anisotropic composite property estimatesDevelop, validate, and optimize composite manufacturing processes, including: Tooling and fixture designLayup and curing processesMachining and finishing operations

Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, materials science, quality, and production) to: Select composite systemsValidate performance

Create and maintain: Work instructionsProcess documentationQuality protocols

Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing and statistical process control (SPC)Mentor junior engineers and techniciansProvide technical leadership for troubleshooting and corrective actionsRequired Qualifications Bachelor's degree (BS) in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field with 10+ years of experienceORMaster's degree (MS) or higher with 5+ years of relevant experienceDemonstrated expertise in: Carbon fiber composite designMechanics of composite materials

Proven experience with: Structural analysis (ANSYS or equivalent)Composite manufacturing processes (R&D and production environments)

Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skillsPreferred Qualifications Advanced knowledge of composite processing techniques: Autoclave curingResin infusionPrecision layup
