Mechanical Engineer

2026-04-16     RecruitMilitary Placement Services     Oak Ridge,TN
Description:

This is a hands-on engineering role built for individuals who thrive in mission-driven environments and take pride in precision, accountability, and problem-solving-skills that military veterans bring every day. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will take systems from concept through installation, testing, and commissioning, ensuring they operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with strict standards. Your work will directly support critical operations, much like maintaining and improving mission-essential equipment in the field.

In this role, you'll apply engineering principles to perform calculations, develop designs, and produce detailed technical drawings and specifications. You'll work across multi-disciplinary teams, coordinating with engineers, technicians, and subcontractors to deliver projects on time and to standard. Attention to detail is key-you'll review designs, verify compliance with codes and safety requirements, and troubleshoot system issues to keep operations running smoothly.

You'll also play a leadership role by guiding design teams, supporting installation and testing efforts, and recommending improvements to equipment and processes. This includes participating in field activities, contributing to cost estimates and project planning, and helping implement solutions that improve performance, reduce risk, and meet evolving operational requirements-similar to planning and executing complex missions with defined objectives and timelines.

The ideal candidate has a degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience), strong technical aptitude, and the ability to operate in structured, safety-focused environments. Experience with engineering software, technical documentation, and industry standards is helpful, but just as important is your ability to communicate, adapt, and execute under pressure. If you're a veteran looking to translate your mechanical, technical, or leadership experience into a high-impact civilian career, this role offers a clear path to grow, lead, and make a difference.
