POSITION SUMMARY

The Regional Safety Lead is a hands-on leader responsible for elevating driver performance and safety across the assigned region. This role is dedicated to coaching, mentoring, and developing drivers through consistent, high-quality training and day-to-day support. The Regional Safety Lead partners with Driver Supervisors and Managers to proactively identify and address safety risks, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and ensure all drivers are equipped with the knowledge and skills to operate safely and efficiently. The goal is to enhance team member experience, reduce accidents and injuries, and increase driver retention through robust training, risk avoidance strategies, and ongoing professional development.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Deliver comprehensive safety training and ongoing coaching for all drivers in the assigned region, focusing on risk avoidance, safe driving practices, and regulatory compliance.

Mentor and support drivers through regular ride-along, road observations, and one-on-one feedback sessions, providing guidance on best practices and areas for improvement.

Collaborate closely with Driver Supervisors and Managers to identify training needs, develop individualized development plans, and ensure timely, accurate reporting.

Lead the development and implementation of action plans that address safety risks and promote a proactive safety culture.

Conduct thorough accident investigations, complete accident files, and perform LYTX reviews to identify root causes and coach drivers on corrective actions.

Audit hours of service and driver files (MVRs, Health Cards, DOT medical requirements, etc.) to ensure compliance and identify opportunities for additional training or support.

Support new employee orientation and onboarding, ensuring all new drivers receive foundational safety training and mentorship.

Partner with recruiting and management to coordinate training schedules and maintain accurate training documentation.

Serve as a resource for drivers and site teams, providing day-to-day support, answering safety-related questions, and offering guidance on challenging situations.

Promote continuous learning by sharing best practices, facilitating safety meetings, and encouraging open communication about safety concerns.

Maintain and verify accurate records on Company, FMCSA, and DOT requirements.

Other duties as assigned.

Maintain a working knowledge on all FMCSA regulations and state specific regulations by reviewing pending and upcoming changes by the DOT.

Performs stop Audit and Near Miss evaluations

Ensure the Region is prepared for all future compliance requirements.

Performs other tasks and duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

High School degree or equivalent.

5+ years of prior driving experience and/or multiple years of safety and compliance experience within the transportation industry.

Previous experience in FMCSA/ELDT requirements.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Customer service oriented with a positive, supportive attitude.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and an aptitude to learn custom software programs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Work may require stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, pushing, and/or pulling.

Must be able to communicate with others via phone, email, and in person.

Work environment is not temperature controlled and may result in exposure to extreme temperatures.

Work primarily involves sitting/standing, up to 4 hours at a time.
