Floor Coating & Concrete Construction Laborer

This role focuses on preparing concrete surfaces and installing epoxy and other resin-based coatings in commercial, industrial, and construction environments. You will perform hands-on work that includes surface preparation, concrete-related tasks, and installation of durable flooring systems while following strict safety and quality standards. The position offers the opportunity to develop skills as a Concrete Polisher and Floor Installer, with both local and travel-based assignments available.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare concrete surfaces for epoxy and resin-based floor coatings, including cleaning, grinding, polishing, and other surface preparation activities.
  • Apply epoxy, urethane, and other resinous coatings to concrete floors in commercial, industrial, and construction settings.
  • Perform concrete-related tasks such as formwork, flatwork, and working with ready mix concrete as needed on projects.
  • Operate power tools and equipment for grinding, polishing, coating, demolition, and other flooring and concrete activities.
  • Assist with concrete finishing, including smoothing, leveling, and ensuring proper curing and surface quality.
  • Support demolition and removal of existing flooring or concrete surfaces as required for new installations.
  • Follow all safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment when working around dust, including silica, and other construction-related conditions.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper handling and storage of tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Work effectively as part of a field crew to complete projects on time and to quality specifications, often over 2–3 week project cycles.
  • Adapt to varying schedules, including first shift and night shift work, and travel as needed for project assignments.

Essential Skills

  • Experience as a strong epoxy floor installer or skilled construction laborer, or a demonstrated willingness to learn concrete polishing and floor installation.
  • Hands-on experience or aptitude with concrete-related work, including formwork, flatwork, and working with ready mix concrete.
  • Ability to perform general construction labor such as concrete work, flooring installation, demolition, and site cleanup.
  • Comfort using power tools and equipment for grinding, polishing, coating, and concrete finishing tasks.
  • Capability to perform physically demanding work, including extended time on hands and knees and handling heavy materials.
  • Attention to detail to ensure high-quality, durable flooring systems and consistent workmanship.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures, especially when working around dust, including silica, and other construction-related conditions.
  • Willingness to work varying schedules, including potential night shifts and changing hours based on project needs.
  • Ability to travel for projects when assigned to travel-based roles.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Direct experience installing resinous flooring systems such as epoxy and urethane is a strong plus but not required.
  • Experience in concrete finishing, including polishing floors, grinding, and coating applications.
  • Experience operating or assisting with dump trucks or haul trucks in a construction environment.
  • Exposure to demolition work, including removal of existing flooring and concrete surfaces.
  • Interest in long-term career growth in floor coating, concrete construction, and field leadership roles.

Work Environment

This is a physically demanding field role that requires extended periods on hands and knees, frequent lifting, and regular use of power tools and construction equipment. You will work in commercial, industrial, and construction environments with exposure to dust, including silica, and other typical jobsite conditions. Projects typically run for 2–3 weeks, followed by about one week between projects, during which employees are still paid for 40 hours to maintain consistent income. Work schedules vary, with some assignments on first shift and others on night shift, depending on project requirements. Both local and travel positions are available; for travel roles, lodging is provided in an Airbnb and a daily per diem is offered to cover meals and incidentals.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Knoxville, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
